What’s up? I’m Paul.
I’m a graphic design student from John Abbott College. I like grey Novembers and hate spring worms. I also like weird media and weird people. I like making music, drawing, and wrting stories on my spare time. I’d like to work in the game industry some time, or any field that allows a group of people to simply make stuff. But, at the end of all this, Im just some random Filipino kid who can devour salmon in 6sec.
The graphic design adventure.
Before college, I never truly payed attention to graphic design. I do remember as kid seeing that crunch chocolate bar design in that one jurassic park film standing out due its strong blue colour and red font, for a second I forgot about the cool dinosaurs because of a measly chocolate bar.
Anyways, I wasn’t all that excited when the name of the program was something like “Hypermedia”, It looked like the kind of thing that might make me drop college. All of this was going through my head until we had that first class of photoshop. I found it kind of fun and new. Ever since, I now have a newfound respect for almost every product with designs on them and the people involved.
Inspirations.
As an artist and designer, I am inspired from everything reality and fiction. I like mashing things together whether its subtle or obvious. This idea itself is inspired by the show Samurai Champloo, a show that showed how the very bizarre combination of samurai and hip hop ended up being timeless. I like listening to music while coming up with visions that accompany it. Stories that come from real life inspire the creation of fictional ones since it is often stranger than fiction.
I always found that the stranger, the more fascinating, since I always get the feeling that it was done for fun rather than work. Althought, I’ve always admired those who can stick to one thing and master it, since someone like myself loves dipping into many different niches.
What do I value?
I value creative freedom and pushing boundaries to a point of abolishing the concept of limits. Every idea should have the chance to see the light of day no matter how stupid they may seem. Being open to as many things as possible is what allows me to move forward in this marathon of creation.
The end.
My end goal is to one day do a money spread once and never again purely out of shame. Seems a little childish but having somewhere and something to do defeats hopelessness. I hope by the time im old and grey, I could look back at the past and acknowledge that I did something good for the world, even if we are but a grain of sand in the grand scheme of things.
